Top 5 NVM Express® Accomplishments in 2024: New Features, Award Wins and More

Thanks to the support of our amazing member companies, NVM Express has had a standout 2024. We successfully released many new features to support the efficiency and reliability of NVM Express® (NVMe®) devices for AI, cloud, client and enterprise storage. We also highlighted these key updates across industry events and within our library of educational resources. As we head into 2025, we want to reflect on our organization’s achievements in expanding NVMe technology throughout 2024.
- NVM Express unveiled the latest NVMe technology features, including updates to the NVMe 2.1 Base specification, Command Set specifications, Transport specifications and the NVMe Management Interface (NVMe-MI™) specification. The new specifications introduced hallmark features like Live Migration, Computational Storage and Host Directed Data Placement – essential for modern storage applications.
- We sponsored Future of Memory and Storage (FMS) 2025, including our annual speaker track, and celebrated an FMS Most Innovative Memory Technology award win. Our technical experts presented exciting use cases on new features and we even won the Most Innovative Memory Technology award for the Live Migration feature. - Our technology experts presented the latest NVMe feature updates at industry events, including Supercomputing 2024 (SC24), SNIA Developer Conference (SDC), OCP Global Summit and OFA Virtual Workshop, highlighting exciting new use cases and the latest NVMe technology features.
- We expanded the NVMe Integrators List and Compliant Product List. With the support of the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), we completed compliance and interoperability testing for many NVMe solutions, growing the NVMe Integrators List and Compliant Products List on our website. - NVM Express published multiple NVMe feature deep dives, including blogs, videos, webinars and more, to serve as in-depth resources for NVMe technology developers at any level. Our library of resources highlights key components of NVMe technology, including Support for CXL, Live Migration, I3C, the NVMe-MI 2.0 Specification and Computational Storage.
These accomplishments were made possible thanks to the continued support of our many member companies and working groups. We look forward to continuing the development of new and exciting features and highlighting those features to the industry throughout 2025.
